I grew up in Salem-Keizer and attended McNary High School (Go Celts!). I graduated in 2000 with honors in journalism and academics. I enjoy visiting friends and family, traveling, animals, being super organized, video games and learning new things like other cultures and its history.
After graduation, I attended Portland State University as a chemistry major. I decided it wasn't quite for me, so I went to Chemeketa Community College for a year so I could figure out what I really wanted. Later, I transferred at Oregon State University and joined Pi Beta Phi. I graduated summa cum laude with two degrees in 2005: nutrition and food management and another in education. I have also received a Masters in 2012 in education and specializing in reading comprehension strategies for ELL students.
I have worked for the Walt Disney Company in Florida for four years and remains to be the greatest experience in my life, resulting in a love for customer service, hospitality, and travel. I worked in merchandise, attractions/operations, and eventually animal programs as an animal nutrition specialist at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Although Disney was a wonderful experience (and I try to visit often), I know that Oregon is my real home and am happy to vacation there (or attend Cook Around the World with students).
I am now going into my 14th year teaching (11th with this district). I have an amazing executive chef for a husband and a preschooler who keeps me on my toes.
