SimulationsAll students enrolled in a child development course will have the opportunity to experience the RealityWorks Real Care baby and empathy belly simulations.
Students will receive proper instruction on how to care for the baby and will receive an extensive report at the conclusion of the simulation. However, students must obtain permission from their parent/guardian to check out the baby simulation over a weekend period. The baby simulations cost $800 and the parent is liable for any damages that might occur if the simulation is mishandled as well as any missing or damaged equipment (i.e. bottle, bottle cap, diaper, etc.). The permission slip has details of these costs so parents are informed. An alternative project is available for students who cannot to participate in the baby simulation. |
Empathy Belly |
The empathy belly simulation is on a volunteer basis in which students may receive extra credit. Students wear the simulation for one class period and complete a short assignment. For this opportunity, parents must sign the consent form below.

Baby Simulation |
Students will have a chance to experience this simulation over the course of a weekend. Those who turn in their permission slip will be able to choose which weekend and baby they would like (first come, first serve basis). Students will have a class period to practice care for the baby prior to their weekend experience.
The RealCare baby simulation has an app you can download on your smart phone or on your Google account here. It's free to download and includes information from the teacher demo as well as hints and tips to best care for baby!
